SMWL/CSM Annual Scholarship Fund
The SMWL Foundation, Inc. gives an annual gift of a minimum of $3,000 to the College of Southern Maryland Foundation (CSM Foundation) to help provide financial assistance for tuition, fees, books, and childcare to a parent or child of a single-parent household.
The recipients must demonstrate financial need and hardship, be enrolled in CSM with a minimum of nine credit hours per semester, reside in a single-parent household in Southern Maryland, and explain their hardship and challenges through an essay of at least
100 words or more.
The CSM staff screens and selects
qualified applicants for the scholarship. Then, the CSM Staff anonymously provides all qualified applicants to the SMWL CSM Scholarship Committee for scoring and selecting the finalists.
SMWL Members are invited to the Scholarship Awards Ceremony, where they can meet the Scholarship Recipients.
It is heartwarming to see SMWL’s efforts
to raise money for others less fortunate than us to help ensure that a single parent or child of a single parent has the opportunity to further their education.

Gathering together for fun and fellowship is just one aspect of the Southern Maryland Women's League. Another very important part is our SMWL Foundation.
Each year, we combine our talents, time, and energy to create memorable events to raise funds to support our Foundation. From Bachelor and Service/Product Auctions, Sock Hops, and Win a Mini Cooper, our Women of Impact Awards Ceremony, and the Monster Mash 5K Run & Dash, our members have come together to ensure success. Over the past 18 years, our members have come together to raise and donate over $480,000+ to support programs, scholarships, organizations, education, resources, and special events supporting women and children within our community. We thank all members, past and present, and sponsors for contributing to this success.
We encourage local business owners, residents, and other women of impact to join us in our mission and support the SMWL by participating in these events and through direct donations to our SMWL Foundation. We thank you in advance for your support.
The SMWL Foundation supports programs, special events, scholarships, and a two-year service project. We provide at least three scholarships yearly to help single parents enrolled at the College of Southern Maryland.
The 2018/19 2-Year Service Project: The Center for Children in La Plata, Maryland - 10K.
The 2017/18 2-Tear Service Project: The Jude House, Newburg, MD - $14,458.57
